Reading Task:
Working cooperatively with a partner, your task is to create a PREZI or a PIXIE or a PPT that promotes reading The Hunger Games to others unfamiliar with the novel. 
Your presentation will use a combination of text, images and video and will include the following components:
  • brief description of author, her works & novel genre
  • key characters from both Capitol and Districts & their personality traits
  • a dramatic scene (suspensful, thrilling, plot turn/twist) with text quote
  • a memorable action scene with text quote
  • your personal opinions, likes, dislikes, or overall comments about the story and its characters
  • a theme or lesson to be learned
Give parents memo of class blog site.

Gr.5s have your math tests signed by a parent.

Reading Response: The Hunger Games

Katniss says "Rue was more than a piece in their game.  And so am I."
  • at this point in the story, what is Katniss thinking and feeling?

  • what would you resolve to do if you were in her position?

  • what are your feelings about the Capitol using random people like sacrificial pawns in a chess game?

Italian family tree project due Friday.

Hunger Games Writing Task

These are your instructions and success criteria for today's writing task for the hunger games.

Writing Task: The Hunger Games

Goal: 

To relate/draw connections to a text.

Task:

Katniss, the protagonist of The Hunger Games, has been thrown into a challenging situation which was clearly not of her own choosing.  We have seen that she has stepped up to face her challenges, asserted her skills and mustarded up the courage within herself to overcome fear and failure.  Discuss a time when you, a friend, an acquaintance, or any fictional character was forced to face a challenge head-on and find inner strength and self-confidence to fight and overcome it.

Success Criteria:

-use WordQ to help you write coherent sentences;

-1st paragraph introduce person and their problematic situation;

-2nd paragraph discuss what person did to conquer challenge;

-3rd paragraph discuss what lesson anyone can learn from this.
