Drama/Media Literacy

Independently or with a partner, script and video a promotional infomercial for any real or ficticious product, service or company of your choice.

Using MS Word, write out your script in full using persuasive language that will engage your audience.  This will also help you avoid countless retakes.  After revisions and edits, increase the font size to 28 and separate into paragraphs to print into cue cards.  These will be like a teleprompter hung on the wall behind the person filming you as a point of reference should you forget what you're talking about.

Using MovieMaker, create an opening sequence: 2-4 title and caption slides with music BEFORE adding your video.  Finally, include a closing slide(s) with music to end your production.  You will need to adjust music options, start/end points, duration and animation where necessary.  See me for any technical issues that may arrise.

Have fun and be creative!

Religion/Media Literacy:

What do you think “social justice” means?
·       fair, equitable, proper treatment of all people regardless of their gender, ethnicity, religion, or economic status.

What social justice issues is the documentary trying to raise?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=onD5UOP5z_c

Social Justice Issues Made in Bangladesh
Words, phrases, key ideas to use in your reading response:
-write in 1st person point of view: “I was shocked to see…”
-garment industry in Bangladesh
-world capital of “fast fashion”: cheap labour, high volume, big bottom line for North American companies like Loblaw/Joe Fresh, H&M, Gap, Walmart’s George brand etc.
-no social justice: no fair, equitable treatment of all people
-dismal working conditions for under-age employees, child labour
-abusive working atmosphere, physically/verbally assaulted
-earning $38/month, $0.24/hour (the lowest wage in the world)
-factories with no emergency escapes routes, employees caged in with barred windows
-as production requests rise, another floor is constructed to the building to accommodate demand; this caused structural instability eventually leading to total crumble of factory
-Rana Plaza factory: in its demise, designer stated that “it’s a symbol of greed”
-Do you think it’s “just” for this to be allowed in our world?
-Do you think companies we shop at, have a “moral obligation” to know where their goods are manufactured and of the “ethical treatment” of the workers that produce these goods?

-Should we buy more “fair trade” goods or support companies that truly “give back” to their suppliers?
