Lab #3: Pure Substances & Mixtures pg.20-21
Context:
·
Pure substances like table sugar or salt and
aluminum are matter that contain only 1 particle.
·
Mixtures like juice, cookies and steel are
matter that contain 2+ particles.
·
Many mixtures we use on a daily basis (i.e.
cleaners, batteries, lights, paints) contain hazardous pure substances that are
harmful to us and the environment; as such, they must be disposed of at a
designated facility – not the garbage can.
Purpose:
We will conduct an experiment to test a sample of matter
to determine whether or not it is a pure substance containing only 1 particle.
Hypothesis:
If we mark a strip of filter paper with a water-soluble
black marker and expose it very close to water, then we think… because…

Part of collaborating on a team task is to share and

for others to use and comment on.
Keeping this in mind, your goal is to create a how-to YouTube video that
explains (using a combination of oral and visual aids) how to either add,
subtract, multiply or divide mixed fractions in an easy-to-follow format for
the typical intermediate student.
