Sept. 3

TEAM: ______________________________________________

Team Task: Marshmallow Challenge

Goals:  collaboration, creativity & innovation

In a team of 4 and within 1 hour (60minutes), you are to build the tallest free-standing structure you can using as much or as little of the following supplies as you wish:

1. 30 sticks of spaghetti
2. 2m (200cm) of tape
3. 2m (200cm) of string
4. 1 marshmallow on top

Success Criteria:
Manage your time efficiently
Brainstorm ideas
Sketch possible prototype(s)
Use your knowledge of geometric shapes
Refer to science textbook structures chapter
Refer online to Marshmallow Challenge Google Images
Collaborate: learning together, sharing/respecting ideas
Shared Responsibility: equal load, responsibility
Consensus: making decisions together, everyone agreeing
Interdependence: relying on each other to reach your goal
Proper use of digital tools during the learning activity

Follow-up:
Document key events of the build process with a few pictures.
What do you predict the height of your structure to be?
What is the actual height of your free-standing structure?
Reflecting upon the success criteria above, what did you do well as team? What could you continue to improve as a team?

The Build Process:

The Results:

Team Turquoise
As a team, we excelled in collaborating and including everyone's ideas.
We will continue to work on our brainstorming and developing a prototype.

Team Blue
As a team, we collaborated well using what we know about geometry, we used google images for ideas and we respectfully shared ideas amongst ourselves.  We thought we could have a built a much stronger foundation.

Team White
As a team, we work well with each other sharing ideas and we managed our time wisely.  We tried many different strategies to support the marshmallow and we continuously strived to make the structure taller and stronger.  Next time, we would refer to our science textbook structures chapter to improve our design.

Team Pink
As a team, we worked well together including everyone's ideas and had fun with the task.  We will continue to listening to and respecting each other's ideas and creativity.

Team Orange
As a team, we worked well to ensure our structure was as stable as possible - we did this by communicating and sharing our ideas while managing our time efficiently.  Next time we could improve the structure by spending more time on brainstorming and sketching a prototype.

Team Green
As a team, we think we did a very good job making decisions together and agreeing on a plan of action.  We think we could have managed our time a little better and made our structure a little more stable.  Otherwise, it was an enjoyable task.
