Following today's discussion about text pgs 11-13 (does the place make sense, physical factors, human factors, factors of location & basic needs) respond to the questions below. I will collect them on Friday.

U1 Place & Location – Text pgs 11-13

When you think of your neighbourhood in the
community of Humberlea/Pelmo Park, do you think that specific places
(residential, commercial, recreational, social, industrial, educational,
cultural etc) within it make sense? In
other words, why are places located where they are?

What do you think the job of an urban planner entails?
·
What is a landform? What landforms
encourage a place to be located around it?
Could climate have any influence on a location?

What human characteristics influence people
to live/build/work in a specific location?
Can you give any real-life examples from your city?

What factors do you think influence the
location of a business?

What modern technologies do we have (vs
i.e. Aboriginals) that enable us to settle virtually any location to meet our
basic needs of water, food, shelter, security and clothing?

Working individually or with only 1 partner, pick any specific place in our city or anywhere in Canada that is
special or of interest to you.

Locate it on a map. Identify the major boundaries/road
intersections around it.

Identify the community/city/province/country
in which it is located.

What type of place is it? i.e. economic/commercial,
