Throughout his
journey to meet his father, Bud has taught me the importance of
perseverance. At no point did Bud stop
his quest to reconnect with his family because it defined who he was as a
person and gave his life purpose. Bud needed
to feel a sense of belonging, to feel acknowledged and loved, and that he was “home”. His mother instilled in him this fierce
determination i.e. “remember your name is
Bud, not Buddy”. If I want to work
towards achieving any goal I set out for myself, then I must realize that it
will take the same hard work, patience, and stead-fast determination
(perseverance) that Bud demonstrated.
Throughout his
journey to meet his father, Bud has taught me the importance of being
resourceful. You cannot go through life
without being a creative, innovative, out-of-the-box thinker. Bud was all these things because his life
experiences and interactions prompted him to devise an endless list of rules
that offered him either a “way out” of a difficult situation or “a dose of
reality” for what adults were really trying to tell him. Life will always throw obstacles in my way
for which I need to find a way to overcome them, just like Bud did.
