Bud, Not
Buddy by Christopher
Paul Curtis
Pair Task
This story
is set during the 1930s in USA during the era of the Great Depression (poor
economic times) following the Jazz Age of the Roaring 1920s.
Bud, in his relentless
quest to reconnect with his biological father (following the death of his
mother) has consistently demonstrated himself to be a resourceful,
self-sufficient, resilient, inspirational young man when
faced with challenges (even when his dad denies him) because he understands the
importance of family.
As a reader,
what life lessons can you take away from Bud’s story and apply in your
life? Also, describe a person (fictional/non-fictional)
that shares Bud’s similar personality traits.

Bud, not Buddy Chp.9 Text to Person Connection
In this
chapter, Bud is comparing an idea to a mighty maple tree. All ideas start off small, but like a plant,
eventually dig in their roots, sprout, develop, grow and spread out to finally
being tall and strong. Identify a time
when you came up with an idea (smart or not) and couldn’t let up on pursuing and
nurturing it – how did it work out for you (positively or negatively)? Did it become a mighty maple?
