Independently or with a partner, begin drafting a personal letter to Seedfolks author Paul Fleishman expressing any of the following:

• your overall opinion of his novel
• your opinion of any of his characters that stood out to you
• your opinion of any life lessons you learned from reading his novel
• any questions you wonder about

Be sure to write in the 1st person point of view, either using "I" or "we" i.e. I feel... I think... I really liked... I was moved by.... I was impressed.... etc.

We will conference next week to revise/edit/print on school letterhead to mail out.

Novel Study: The Little Prince

The Flower:

• she is vain, not modest/humble
• she plays the victim, fakes cough to make Little Prince feel guilty
• she's too proud, has a superior attitude, makes high-maintenance demands
• all this masks her sensitivity, insecurity and vulnerability
• she eventually expresses her feelings/love to the Prince but he doesn't know how to deal with it and leaves her since at one point he thought she wasn't truthful
• what life lessons do you think could be learned from this encounter?

The King:

• he is an absolute monarch: his authority/power has no limit
• he prides himself on giving orders that are reasonable and can be easily fulfilled
• he is absurd and lonely: he wants to make Little Prince his right-hand to be judge, jury and executioner of the rat on planet, yet continuously pardon it since its the only one they have
• what life lessons do you think could be learned from this encounter?

Novel Study: The Little Prince

Chp.1-5 What is really important in life?
• Don’t forget about your inner child, love that inner child as an adult
• Appreciate and continue to use your imagination, creativity
• Look beyond the superficial, think outside the box
• Follow your dreams, cultivate your passions/interests
• Be true to yourself
• Patience is truly a virtue that needs to be developed
• Maintain your innocence, naivety, sense of curiosity 
• Don’t take everything too seriously
• Our know-how is not measured by our image; you are not more or less of a person based on how you look; we are not defined by image
• Having the 411 about someone should not always include status and economic background; we don’t see the sheep inside the crate.
• Take time to reflect, don’t get caught up in the monotonous structure of your day
• Monitor our habits, behaviours, attitudes to ensure they don’t become negative or that we neglect dealing with them head-on because then it could grow and spiral out of our control: we can’t get lazy and need to take care of the little things in life before they escalate into big problems

If you want a raise in pay, you would refer to mode $750 since it's the lowest.

If you are hiring, you would refer to mean $1250 since it's the highest.

Orange was favored the most.  Grapefruit was favored the least.

Seedfolks Reading Response: Offering a Personal Opinion

I am impressed by Wendell and his attitude towards life.  Although he has lost both his wife and child, he remains positive and hopeful.  If this tragedy happened to me, I think I would remain depressed for quite a long time – it would be difficult to get over.  I really admire the fact that Wendell chooses to focus on the present and future, not “moan about” his tragic losses.  I respect his decision to direct his attention on what he can change (growing the Gibb Street Garden) and not repeatedly dwell on what he can’t change (death of wife/son).  I feel he has a good heart and that helping others in the neighborhood, will help him feel better and give him a purpose in life.  He teaches me that everyone must move on with living and not get caught up thinking about or reliving the past – no good will come of this.  We must work towards building a positive future.

Now, select any 1 character of your choice and offer a personal opinion of him/her with supporting reasons.  Lined paper or MS Word, take your pick and submit. When you are offering your personal opinion, your sentences must be written in the 1^st person point of view, using the pronoun “I”.  NO RETELL.
