Purpose: 
In this experiment, I will determine how much drink powder it will take to make a saturated solution, that is, a solution in which no more solute (drink powder) can dissolve in a solvent (water).

Hypothesis: 
1.  If I add ____ spoonfuls of drink powder to room-temp water, then I think it will dissolve to form an unsaturated solution, that is, a solution in which more solute can be dissolved.
2.  If I add  ____ spoonfuls of drink powder to room-temp water, then I think will dissolve to form a saturated solution, that is, a solution in which no more solute can dissolve.

Procedure:
1.  Measure 100ml of water.  Add 1 spoonful (5ml or 4gr) of drink powder.  Stir.
2.  Continue adding spoonfuls of drink powder, stirring after each one.
3.  Stop adding drink powder when no more will dissolve.

Observations:
I noticed that ________ spoonfuls of drink powder dissolved in 100ml of water.  (1 spoonful measures 5ml or 4gr x ___#of spoonfuls = ___ml or ___gr of solute)

Analysis:

Concentration = mass of solute / 100ml of solution
                              ___gr       / 100ml of solution = ____gr  /  200ml

Conclusion:

What did you learn about the solubility of a solute?

F.Y.I. everyone

I am working on the possibility of skyping with another elementary school class in USA for a book talk to discuss what novels we are reading and have read.  Should be fun, will keep you posted!

On Thursday December 20th, Mr. Ken Kettlewell an artist from www.innercityangels.ca will visit our class for a Papier-mâché sculpture workshop.  The cost will be 5$ per student for supplies.  The rest of the cost is generously donated by the Noce Family which we wish to thank :)
