Earl Bales Ski Trip Mon Feb 26

I went skiing this morning and conditions are very good.  See pictures below.  Come dressed appropriately: snow pants, waterproof clothing, hats, gloves, layered clothing.  Bring a packed lunch and water.  We will leave between 8.45-9.00, walk over to Wilson bus stop, head east to Bathurst, then a few blocks north to Bainbridge where main ski entrance is located.  Parent supervisors are invited to join myself and Mr Leo with students on TTC.  You will pick up your full rentals and head to your lesson.  There are 3 main hills with a chair lift and a learning hill with a rope tow.  You will get plenty of runs in and practice your skiing techniques.  Should be a fun day :)

Novel Study

Wrinkle in Time reading responses due after family-day weekend:

-what do you understand fate to mean?

-what do you understand free will to mean?

-how do you feel fate and free will affect our lives?

-the planet camazotz suggests that happiness comes from the absence of free will, from giving in, from submission (to artificial intelligence), from conformity and uniformity - what do you personally think of this idea?

-do you think living in a world in which everyone is the same (not equal) like camazotz would bring about happiness and avoid problems if "individualism" is completely eliminated as IT would like?

-what do you think about IT being considered a "sadist", that is, taking pleasure in mind-control?

-in a recent chapter a character was told "there is nothing to fear but fear itself" - why do think bravery comes from facing and conquering that which scares us?

-what do we learn about the importance of family and unconditional love?

-what thing(s) in life are important and everlasting, yet intangible (unseen)?

Reading Response Exemplar
I think fate and free will affects our daily lives.  We all have the ability to make choices - some good, some bad.  We have to take responsibility for these choices and deal with the outcomes.  Sometimes our free will is limited by rules and regulations.  We also have and make plans and follow schedules.  These structured events can be easily thrown off by unforeseen things that pop up - that's why they're just called plans. Sometimes the universe may send us a message or signal that what we have planned may not be right or that its timing is off - this is fate or a guiding spirit. Therefore, in life I think we have to deal with and balance both fate and free will because it affects how our day goes.
